COMMUNITY BIOCHAR INCENTIVE

Maccy Biochar is offering incentives in 2025 to any two (2) South Australian community volunteer not-for-profit groups to diversify into making biochar to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, improve local soils and reduce irrigation.

Who can apply: Any SA community volunteer group but particularly landcare,  bushcare or community garden groups with access to suitable biomass and a  supply of fresh water that is keen to help draw down carbon and sequester biochar, and who will keep written records of production so that the number of tonnes of sequestered carbon and reduced atmospheric CO₂ can be estimated.

What is being offered: Training and assistance in setting up a community biochar group comprising:

  • 1 “flame-cap” kiln (12 month loan renewable subject to agreement)
  • Operating handbook
  • ½ day training session at Macclesfield.

Applications should be sent to maccybiochar@adam.com.au with the following information on or before 1 May 2025:

Name and address of community group;

Number of members;

Expression of interest;

Contact details.

Enquiries: Contact Maccy Biochar by email or by phone on 0411 480 935.

The successful applicant will be notified and invited to enter into a simple agreement covering the transfer of the items involved, the details of the training to be provided, group insurance, event risk management, quality control, carbon capture calculations, biochar materials handling, biochar sales cooperation, and any other matters on which agreement is needed.
